What does the future hold for horse-drawn logging?
Le 07 September 2023 - Evrehailles (Yvoir)
Objectives
The soil of a forest is its real capital. If it settles during logging, this can have disastrous long-term consequences.
Horse skidding is a technique for preserving forest soils. Often used for the first softwood thinnings, it can also be an asset in mixed deciduous forestry.
During the morning demonstration, we will see how the horse can complement the machines in different situations (objective tree trimming, preservation of regeneration areas or klumps planted in the understorey). In the afternoon, the Meneurs asbl and Canopea will be pleased to share the results of their study on the situation of horse skidding in Wallonia, which took place in the first half of 2023. Figures, findings and possible solutions will be presented.
