Dead wood - a source for a more resilient and productive forest
Le 19 November 2024 - Bonlez
Objectives
Dead wood is a key resource for around 30% of forest-dwelling species, and plays a vital role in the carbon and nutrient cycles that are essential for forest regeneration and improving the resilience and robustness of forests to global change.
Today, the average volume of dead wood in Wallonia's forests is around 10m³/ha. The objectives are to increase this volume, diversify it and distribute it geographically. Trees of biological interest (TBI) will play a major role in meeting these objectives.
This day will provide an opportunity to discover the benefits of dead wood and trees of biological interest, and to work together to propose ways of managing this resource, in particular by carrying out an inventory of dead wood and designating AIBs.
