International Forest Day - Planning

Forests, sustainable production and consumption

Celebrated on 21 March, International Forest Day is an opportunity to become aware of all that the forest brings us, but also of what it needs. The Société Royale Forestière de Belgique (SRFB), which is active in promoting and protecting the forest, is organising activities on 21 March to discover the forest, all its benefits and its sustainable management."Forests for sustainable production and consumption" is the theme highlighted by the United Nations this year. It reminds us that, while forests offer us much, we must also "consume" them in moderation.

"Make the sustainable wood choice, for people and the planet", says the FAO, underlining that producing wood while protecting the forest is possible when it is managed according to sustainable management criteria.

For the general public, sustainable forest consumption also means respecting biodiversity, soil and the tranquillity of wildlife.
