Pine forestry
Le 23 May 2024 - Helchteren
Objectives
Until recently, pine trees occupied a marginal position in Wallonia's forests. However, interest in these species is growing due to their potential better adaptation to the warmer, drier climates expected in the coming decades. Foresters in the Kempen region have long experience of Scots pine silviculture, and more recently of Corsican pine silviculture, which Wallonia could learn from. There are even some astonishing old maritime pine trials.
On this day, we will visit an estate dominated by pine trees. We will look at the various aspects of silviculture for these species, from thinning to renewal by planting or natural regeneration. In particular, we will look at the natural regeneration of Scots and maritime pines and the treatments to be applied to them in regular or irregular silviculture. More than a training course, this day will be more about sharing experience. So don't hesitate to come and talk to us!
