Objectives

Dead wood is a key resource for around 30% of forest-dwelling species, and plays a vital role in the carbon and nutrient cycles that are essential for forest regeneration and improving the resilience and robustness of forests to global change.

Today, the average volume of dead wood in Walloon forests is around 10m³/ha. The objectives are to increase this volume, diversify it and distribute it geographically. Habitat trees will play a major role in meeting these objectives.

This day will provide an opportunity to discover the benefits of dead wood and tree habitats, and to work together to propose ways of including these resources in today's forestry.
