Larch silviculture

Full
Larch silviculture
On 11 October 2023 - Stoumont
Objectives
With 2.7 million m³ in the Walloon region, larch is the fourth most important conifer species, and its significance is only growing. The species is notably used for diversification and as an alternative to spruce and Douglas fir. However, with its pioneering and sun-loving nature, larch does not behave in the same way as these others, and the silviculture required to get the best out of it is entirely specific. Over the course of the day, we will visit larch plantations and natural regenerations of varying ages and see, at each stage, what needs to be done to ensure good individual tree growth. Thinning marking exercises and demonstrations of thinning and pruning will punctuate the day.
