Objectives of the PEFC day

On 20 June 2023, against a backdrop of climate change and health crises, the sustainable management of our forests is at the heart of the debate. Forest owners must make their forests resilient and ensure a balance between the different functions they perform (ecological, economic and social). As for businesses and consumers, they are attaching increasing importance to the type of wood they use and its environmental impact. That's why it's so important to initiate meetings of this kind.

During this day of exchanges, 20 private forest owners had the opportunity to discuss sustainable forestry certification in the forest. This forestry morning provided an opportunity to discuss the forestry charter and its short-term development during a visit to private forest plots to illustrate the application of the 14 points of the PEFC charter. The discussions were very interesting and at times very passionate.

In the afternoon, we received an excellent welcome from the Burgo Ardennes team. Burgo Ardennes stressed the importance of PEFC certification. Burgo Ardennes currently buys 55% of PEFC-certified wood. Most of this wood comes from France. Burgo Ardennes insisted on the importance for private owners to become certified.

After the discussion in the room, a tour of the factory gave us an insight into how pulp is made and how it is converted into paper weighing from 90g to 350g in the form of reels or sheets.

The day was a great success for all involved.
