"UNILIN Vielsalm will not be buying uncertified logs in July and August.

This is the subject of an e-mail sent by Unilin to all its subcontractors.

For some months now, we've been sensing that the timber industry is worried that it will no longer be able to find enough certified timber in Belgium.[1]. At the end of June, UNILIN (Spanolux), one of Belgium's largest panel manufacturers, took the tough decision to withdraw its production facilities. refuse any wood that is not PEFC or FSC labelled.  Suspension of PEFC certification[2] of more than 155,000 hectares of public forest no doubt has something to do with it. They are calling on private owners to get themselves certified. Some Belgian buyers have already shifted part of their supply to neighbouring France and Germany.

We would remind you that the SRFB issues the PEFC label for private landowners, and helps you to draw up your PEFC certification applications.
